Modeling Trees from Sedum
A member of FCVRR came up with a interesting tree that can be made from a natural grown wild weed flower growing in Pennsylvania. Sedum a natural wild plant we might consider a wild field weed. It flowers in the fall and looks like figure1. He says that the best time to harvest Sedum is in the month of March. This is the perfect time to harvest Sedum. The fall and winter winds have already dried them ready for use. All you need is a good pair of seizers, nice day. They can be found along roadside, fencerows and in fields. Not to mention with other interesting naturally growing plants that you might find to give your railroad a very natural look.

He also preferred the method of diluting Elmer’s white glue by 50% with water. We think that this also helps seel the natrual plant as well. He mixed it in an old container (cool whip) I think! Deep enough to submerge the Sedum tops completely in the glue solution. He then hung them for a few minutes to let the excess glue drip off before sprinkling Woodland Scenic Turf blend over the Sedum tops. This really gives them a real tree appearance and you can see in the example images. Set your new trees upright in a place to dry that with some old news paper under them just in case some excess glue still drips off them. Let them dry well over night and plant them in your layout!
