"Our latest project is Delaware Lackawanna & Western #95904, a 45 ton double track snowplow built in 1945 by Russell Snowplow and Car Co. of Ridgway, PA. It was donated to us by the Growth Resources of Wellsboro, PA, who used it on their Wellsboro & Corning Railroad. They acquired it from COnrail where it was numbered #64568. It originally was DL&W #95904, and was to receive EL #1306, but never did."
This Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad snowplow built by the Russell Snowplow & Car Co. of Ridgway, PA, in 1945. The donation is courtesy of the Growth Resources of Wellsbor, Pennsylvania, with Ferlin Patrick as its president. G.R.O.W. had owned the Wellsboro & Corning Railroad, where our snowplow worked and resided after being acquired from Conrail. It was numbered as Conrail #64568. The snowplow became Conrail property when Conrail took over the Erie Lackawanna, along with several other eastern/mid-western railroads. It served on the EL still carrying the Lackawann number of #94904, as far as anyone knows. It was assigned EL #1306, but never had the number changed. The snowplow is in excellent shape, having recently been repainted by the former owners.
FCVRRHS,org has resumed its fundraisers for the snowplow. We had to make sure we were still the true owners. Now that we have that assurance, all fundraisers have been reactivated. This means donors can donate through the website using Paypal. However, we are asking those that do donate through the website and Paypal to refrain from using an automatic withdrawal. We have a member who has had a lot of trouble us method. We would rather have donors who are pleased with their donating to our project.
We also accept donations via U.S. Postal. They can mail their remittances to
FCVRRHS, P.O. Box 632, Meadville, PA 16335.
They can also donate by visiting Generosity.com and search for "DL&W snowplow" or " French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society".
